Description

Scarce 1838 Classic Quarter Eagle, MS62

1838 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Breen-6146 R.2. Only one die pair is known for the 1838 quarter eagle, and although it is priced as a type coin, the issue is substantially scarcer than its 1834 and 1836 predecessors. Usually encountered in VF to AU grades, the 1838 is rare in Mint State, and is seldom encountered with the quality and eye appeal of the present sharply struck piece. Original and lightly marked with attractive honey-gold color. Encapsulated in a green label PCGS holder. Population: 10 in 62, 12 finer (5/08).
