Description

Extraordinary 1880 Quarter, PR68 Cameo

1880 25C PR68 Cameo NGC. The 1880 is the second in a series of low mintage proof and business strike Liberty Seated quarters. A total of 1,355 proofs were struck and, of course, any specimen that grades PR68 is truly exceptional. Only a select few 19th century proofs exhibit such remarkable preservation, and the present piece would make a tremendous addition to any collection.
An arc of violet and maroon toning graces the upper reaches of the obverse and surrounds the entire reverse. The virtually immaculate fields are deeply mirrored and show spectacular cameo contrast against the vividly frosted devices. A full strike only adds to the appeal of this fantastic representative. Census: 5 in 68 Cameo, 1 finer (8/08).
