Colorful Gem 1857 Three Cent Silver
1857 3CS MS65 PCGS. The 1850s through the start of the Civil War were the heyday for this "oddest" denomination, which after 1862 never saw a business-strike emission greater than the five-figure range. The 1857 production was 1.04 million coins, but Gems are much more plentiful than the next grade level finer. This MS65 example boasts silvery centers with a blush of color that deepens at the rims to blue and violet. Population: 35 in 65, 6 finer (9/09).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22Z6, PCGS# 3673, Greysheet# 3624)
