Description
Superb Gem Proof 1913 Type II Buffalo Nickel
1913 5C Type Two PR68 PCGS. A satiny and Superb Gem Proof with pale bluish-gray color on the obverse, accented by hints of lilac. The reverse is light gray with vivid gold, lilac, and blue coloration. This example is tied with a small number of similar coins for honors as the finest certified, two of which passed the auction block earlier in the year at prices ranging from $39,000 to $67,000. Given the similarity of these Proofs to the business strikes of this era, many of the 1,514 Proofs struck were actually spent, thus accounting for the lower than normal survival percentage.
