Spectacular 1848 Pedro II 500 Reis
Pedro II 500 Reis 1848, KM458, Russo 561, XF40 NGC. A controversial issue, with only two or three original specimens in existence and a large number of counterfeits, the 1848 500 Reis was the first issue of the so-called Third Monetary System which replaced the ill-fated Cruzado series and went into effect that year. No mintage numbers exist and numismatists speculate if this in fact was a pattern issue whose few pieces made it into circulation. An incredible piece!From the Paulistana Collection
