Description

1799 Eagle, Large Stars Obverse, MS61, BD-10

1799 $10 Large Stars Obverse MS61 NGC. Breen-6841, Taraszka-22, BD-10, R.3. Large obverse stars. On the reverse, a leaf touches the lower right foot of I in AMERICA, and the lowest berry is directly below the center of the right foot of the second A. This is the most available die variety of the 1799 eagles, but it is still relatively scarce, as are all 18th century gold issues. This date had a mintage of 37,449 pieces, and John Dannreuther (2006) estimates the number of BD-10 survivors at approximately 300 to 400 coins. This lovely Mint State example displays complete mint luster and bright lime-gold coloration. There are a few superficial blemishes on each side, none of which are unexpected for the MS61 grade level. (Registry values: P1)
