Description
Lustrous Borderline Mint State 1895-O Dollar
1895-O $1 AU58 NGC. The key New Orleans issue within the Morgan Dollar series, the 1895-O has the second smallest production from the southern mint, surpassing only the 1893-O. The 1895-O is significantly scarcer than the 1893-O, which suggests a different pattern of distribution. Bowers (1992) states, "Apparently, no 1895-O dollars were represented in the Treasury release of 1962-1964." He also adds, "The rarity and importance of the 1895-O in Mint State cannot be overemphasized." While the present lustrous example is not quite Mint State, it comes exceedingly close, since even the cheek of Liberty has noticeable sheen. A moderate mark to the chin and another in the field in front of the nose may have helped deny an Uncirculated designation. Delicate golden toning further confirms its originality. A significant offering of this notable O-mint rarity.(Registry values: P9, N991)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 255Y, PCGS# 7236, GSID# 7620)
