Description

Lovely Gem 1849-O Half

1849-O 50C MS65 NGC. Despite a mintage of over 2.3 million pieces, like many antebellum minor silver issues, this heavily circulated New Orleans half dollar is immensely elusive in the better Mint State grades, particularly at the Choice and Gem levels. In the latter state, auction appearances are markedly infrequent. This highly lustrous survivor is one of the latter, well-defined and minimally marked beneath thin, yet ample green-gold, sage, and marble-pink patina. It is tied with two others at NGC and one at PCGS for numerically finest in the combined certified population (8/08).
