Description

Transitional 1858 Indian Cent Pattern Rare Pollock-254, Snow-PT35 Subvariety

1858 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-208, Pollock-254, PR63 NGC. Snow-PT35, R.7. There are four notable subvarieties of Judd-208; these include each combination of narrow or broad bust point obverses paired with either five or six leaf cluster laurel wreath reverses. The present piece pairs the narrow bust point obverse with a six leaf clusters wreath reverse. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. Snow states, "Rare and popular as the true transitional - The exact style of 1859." This well struck light golden-brown specimen is pleasing despite a few faint slide marks on the neck and cheekbone and a tiny spot within the C in CENT.
