1901 $10 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Although the 1901 is common in business strike format, proofs are rare. Only 85 pieces were struck, some of which may have been spent by heirs, or even by turn of the century dealers, since proof gold type coins commanded little premium over face until after 1933. This is a fully struck lemon-gold near-Gem that has a hint of repunching on the bases of the 19 in the date. A small planchet flake on the field above the eagle's neck serves as an identifier. The radiant devices provide noticeable contrast with the glass-like fields. Population: 3 in 64 Deep Cameo, 1 finer (5/08).
