Description

Late State 1834 JR-6 Dime

1834 10C Large 4--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. JR-6, R.2. Reiver die state f. Cleaned with the usual resulting hairlines and dull silver in color. A couple of minor areas of incrustation are found on the stars. Decent surfaces and strong device details throughout. There is a minor scrape below the eagle's beak. On this later die state, the retained cud remains fixed through ATES (on worn coins this area appears very close to a full cud, as seen on a coin from this collection), additional lumps have formed in the cracks through MERIC and also through the final A and arrowheads. A great die study coin for the collector as such advanced die deterioration is seldom found on any die pairing.
