Description

1795 Small Head O-126a Half Dollar

1795 50C Small Head. O-126a, High R.4. VG10 NGC. A light die crack is present through the E in UNITED and the left ribbon end and stem. The smallest of Overton's Small Heads (O-126 to O-128); these are identified by stubby ends to the neck curls. It is also the most common of these three die marriages, which as a group, should be considered as a separate Guide Book variety, although not currently listed as such. A minor obverse rim bruise at 4 o'clock, and close examination locates a few more small marks, none worthy of singular description, although an old blended scratch is visible from the top of the right (facing) wing. Deep steel-blue and lavender-brown colors provide a natural appearance.
