Beautiful Mint State 1838-C Quarter Eagle

1838-C $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Variety 1-A, the only known dies. The mintmark is widely repunched south, and is located on the obverse centered above the 3 in the date. The first of just two dates of Charlotte production of the Classic Quarter Eagle. This flashy sunrise-gold example is well struck for the type, and neither side possesses any mentionable marks. A desirable Mint State piece, for the Classic gold specialist as well as the Charlotte type or date collector. A middle die state with cracks beneath the beak and above the left (facing) wingtip.(#7697) (Registry values: P3)
