Description

Deeply Mirrored 1836 Gobrecht Dollar, PR62
Judd-60, Die Alignment I

1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR62 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I (the center of Liberty's head is opposite the DO in DOLLAR). First issue of 1836, struck prior to the die clashing that produced the diagonal line above the eagle's wing. Always a popular type coin because of the majestic design and limited availability of all three dates, Gobrecht dollars are one of the classic issues in United States numismatics. Gobrechts are also one of the few U.S. coins that were struck in proof format and released into general circulation. This piece is mostly brilliant on the obverse with very light toning on the reverse and the fields are deeply reflective. A few shallow scratches and contact marks in the right obverse field account the coin's grade.
