Description

Notable MS67 1943-D/D Cent
The Famous and Popular RPM-1

1943-D/D 1C MS67 PCGS. FS-019, RPM-1, Breen-2169. Listed in the Guide Book. In 20th century American numismatics, dramatic die errors are most often the result of unusual pressure on the Mint, whether the stress of implementing a new design or a lack of personnel; many famous wartime varieties, including this dramatic repunched mintmark, stem from the latter cause. The present Superb Gem example displays the dramatic errant mintmark prominently to the southwest of the main one, and aside from a touch of the usual softness at Lincoln's hair, the strike is solid. Surfaces are well-preserved and suitably lustrous. For the variety, Population: 6 in 67, 0 finer (10/08).
