Description

Borderline Uncirculated 1803 Dollar
Large 3, B-6, BB-255

1803 $1 Large 3, B-6, BB-255, R.2, AU58 NGC. Bowers-Borckardt Die State II with a hair thin die crack between stars 10 and 11. Generally silver-gray with deep cream-gray on the devices. As expected for the grade, luster shimmers across the borders and within the hair and shield. Liberty's cheek and shoulder has slight wear, but the surfaces are impressively void of abrasions. An interesting lintmark between the U in UNITED and the fletchings provides an identifier. Mint records indicate that 19,570 silver dollars were delivered in 1804. Most of these were likely BB-255, the sole Large 3 variety aside from the novodel proof made decades later.(Registry values: P2)
