Not Sold Description
Toned Gem Cameo Proof 1860 Seated Dollar
1860 $1 PR65 Cameo NGC. With a published mintage of 1,330 pieces, the 1860 Seated dollar had the highest mintage for any dollar-sized proof issue until the Trade dollars of 1879; however, only 527 of those pieces actually sold, according to Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States by Q. David Bowers, with the rest melted. As a result, the issue is much more elusive than the mintage figure might suggest, and it commands a greater premium than a number of later issues with lower gross mintages but higher net sales. This Gem offers rich rose, violet, and gold shadings over strong mirrors and mildly frosted, sharply struck devices. Delightful contrast and powerful eye appeal. Census: 3 in 65 Cameo, 10 finer (7/08).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 252E, PCGS# 87003, GSID# 7305)
