Choice XF 1839-C Quarter Eagle, Recut 39
1839-C $2 1/2 XF45 ANACS. Recut 39. Variety 3-C, McCloskey-C, R.3. The recut 39 was created by a low 3 and slightly low 9 being corrected, with the result being clearly discernible. The present coin is a later die state, with a vertical crack extending from below the 3 in the date up through the neck then through the T in LIBERTY to star 9, another from star 2 through the chin, and two more cracks in the upper left (facing) reverse quadrant. Deep apricot-gold patina is imbued with blue and orange accents, and just a few inoffensive marks are noted on each side.From The Carolina Gold Collection, Part Two.(Registry values: P5)
