Lustrous Near Mint 1852-D Half Eagle
1852-D $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 28-U. One of three identified die marriages for the issue, the date is centered beneath bust, and a vertical line is present in the second S in STATES. As usual for the Dahlonega Mint, the strike is not complete on the curls, claws, or fletchings, but the wings are intricate, and there is no obvious friction on the devices. Luster is extensive but does not cross the open fields. Tiny ticks on the forehead and nose are not significant for the grade.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UC, PCGS# 8252, GSID# 9002)
