Description

Choice XF 1856-C Five Dollar

1856-C $5 XF45 PCGS. Variety 24-J, the only known dies. Despite its mintage of 28,457 pieces, the 1856-C is a rare and underrated coin among Charlotte half eagles. It is rarely seen above XF and invariably is softly struck, as this coin is. The surfaces are lightly abraded for an XF coin and the orange-gold coloration turns noticeably deeper around the peripheral devices.
