Description

Rare Circa 1876 Continental Dollar Restrike, HK-854

Circa 1876 Continental Dollar Restrike, MS63 Prooflike NGC. HK-854 and not to be confused with the Bowers' restrikes attributed as HK-854A. The NGC label indicates that the thickness of the current piece is within the 3.0 mm to 3.4 mm range, thus verifying it as a circa 1876 issue by Montroville Dickeson, as opposed to the thinner, more common restrikes produced in the early 1960s. The bold details of the table upon which the sundial rests is further indication that this is indeed an early issue, as this design detail was lost when the dies were copied in later years. The recently revised Hibler-Kappen reference suggests that between 11 to 20 examples of HK-854 have survived.
