Description
Rare 1968 No S Superb Cameo Proof Dime
1968 10C No S PR68 Cameo NGC. The June 28, 1968 edition of Coin World announced the discovery of this rare, modern mint error. Created by a failure to affix the mintmark to one of the proof dies for this year, the 1968 No S was found in the Mint Bureau's sealed plastic containers as part of proof sets. Perhaps because of the small size of the coins, proof Dimes were especially susceptible to this mint error. No S proof Dimes were also released in 1970 and 1975. The two major grading services, PCGS and NGC, have certified only a handful of examples of the No S 1968 proof Dime in all grades, and along with the 1975 No S Dime, it is one of the two major rarities of the entire Roosevelt Dime series. The obverse is toned in a haze of streaky russet toning, while the reverse displays similar, but lighter coloration. The surfaces are essentially mark-free, with pinpoint striking. Very rare in this incredible condition.(#5245) (Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27F3, PCGS# 5245, GSID# 4972)
