Description

Imposing PR67 1908 Indian Quarter Eagle

1908 $2 1/2 PR67 NGC. Ex: Lisa L. An exquisite Superb Gem with pinpoint-sharp devices and unabraded surfaces. The matte finish is uniform aside from a dash of khaki-gold toning beneath the F in OF and hair-thin vertical strike-throughs across the P in PLURIBUS and between stars 5 and 6. These mint-made features provides an identifier for pedigree researchers. The dies are rotated several degrees counterclockwise. The 1908 is scarcer than suggested by its recorded proof mintage of 236 pieces. Breen notes, "Many reportedly melted, Jan. 2, 1909." As of (10/06), Neither NGC nor PCGS has certified any examples in finer grades.
