Description
Vividly Toned Choice 1839 Drapery Half
1839 50C Drapery MS64 NGC. Ocean-blue, plum, and orange invigorate this shimmering and carefully preserved near-Gem. The strike is intricate across the centers, although the eagle's left (facing) ankle and a few stars lack absolute detail. The first Seated half dollars, also struck in 1839, did not have drapery beneath the elbow. That was shortly rectified, however, and drapery remained with the design until its 1891 demise. Census: 13 in 64, 3 finer (6/06).From The Belle Glade Collection.(Registry values: N2998)
