Description
Highly Collected 1795 Ten Dollar Gold
1795 $10 13 Leaves XF40 PCGS. Breen-6830, B. 2-A, Taraszka-2, R.4. The U.S. Mint began Eagle production in 1795 with a production of just 5,583 coins. The design is attributed to Robert Scot, and it continued through 1797, when the Small Eagle reverse yielded to the Heraldic Eagle motif. Survivors of this issue are the most common Eagles of the Capped Bust Right, Small Eagle type. It seems likely that many representatives of this issue were preserved as the first of their kind, but there are still not enough coins to satisfy the unflagging demand from type collectors. This is a pleasing, yellow-gold example whose surfaces exhibit modest brightness in the fields. The impression is expertly centered and bold, the devices are lightly worn across the highest points and in the fields. There are some wispy abrasions on both sides, none of which are inconsistent with the XF grade level. Housed in an earlier PCGS holder with a green insert. From The John H. Schroeder Collection.(Registry values: P5)
