Description

Outstanding PR67 1863 Seated Half

1863 50C PR67 NGC. Milky chestnut-gold and powder-blue encompass both sides of this immaculate Civil War Superb Gem. A good strike with only minor incompleteness on the left-side stars, Liberty's forehead curls, and the eagles left (facing) ankle. It is amazing that the present piece passed through generations of collectors without receiving hairlines, since "brilliant is best" was the dominant market philosophy for several decades. A mere 460 proofs were struck, and only a handful have survived in such lofty condition. Census: 4 in 67, 1 finer (5/08).(Registry values: N10218)
