Description

Laudable 1875-CC Half Eagle, AU55

1875-CC $5 AU55 PCGS. The average 1875-CC half eagle has a number of strikes against it that makes an outstanding representative such as this all the more remarkable. A typical example has poor detail, worse than that found on this piece. The usual coin has heavy wear and abrasions over most of the surfaces, unlike the minor rub on the highpoints visible on this half eagle. This piece shares some positive attributes with the norm, such as still-lustrous amber-gold surfaces, as well as less desirable attributes, such as a pair of planchet defects visible on the chin. In the end, though, a collector who puts a lesser example side-by-side with this lot will find that there is no comparison. Population: 5 in 55, 1 finer (11/06).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WU, PCGS# 8337, Greysheet# 9060)

Weight: 8.36 grams
