Attractive 1799 S-189, B-3 Cent, Fine 12
1799 1C Fine 12 PCGS. S-189, B-3, R.2. Even though both sides of this piece have modest surface marks that are consistent with the grade, it is a wonderful example with mostly medium brown surfaces that exhibit a few splashes of darker steel patina. An earlier die state, with a small die chip on the reverse. The variable size die chip is located between the E of ONE and the T of CENT, and is a hallmark of genuine examples from this normal date die pair. While a few genuine pieces exist without the die chip, the absence of that feature is a good reason to suspect an altered date.
