Census Level 1808 S-278 Cent, MS64 Brown

1808 1C MS64 Brown PCGS. CAC. S-278, B-2, R.2. Breen Die State III. Prominent rim crumbling is visible below the date, and clash marks are evident inside the wreath. This example is the 1991 Noyes plate coin. In 1991 Bill Noyes ranked this piece as tied for finest known and graded it MS65. By 2005, he had dropped his grade opinion to MS60, and ranked it as tied for fifth finest known. Del Bland grades this piece MS62, and lists it as tied for fourth finest known. It is a fully lustrous piece has light brown surfaces with complete cartwheels on both sides. The reverse is darker steel with a crescent of light brown that is faded from original red. EAC 63.
