Description

Impressive 1915-S Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Octagonal

1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Octagonal MS64 PCGS. Extremely lustrous with rich golden color that generates uncommonly eye appeal on this massive, highly prized commemorative gold issue. Abrasions are almost non-existent and just a few paper-thin luster grazes affect the center of the obverse.
Surely the most symbolic coin ever produced by the U.S. Mint, the Pan-Pac fifties showed America (represented by Athena) with her helmet in a ready position as we followed the Great War in Europe and contemplated our own possible involvement in that bloody conflagration. Dolphins are positioned in the eight angles of the octagon, symbolizing the continuous water route completed by the Panama Canal. The owl seated on the Ponderosa pine, as one might easily surmise, represents wisdom.(Registry values: P7)
