Description
Monogram NE Pine Tree Shilling AU55
1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet AU55 PCGS. Noe-8, Crosby 1b-D, R.3. 70.79 grains. An early die state of the Monogram NE variety, the beads are sharp and no die lump has formed beneath the GL in ENGLAND. Mint luster shimmers across this deep olive-brown and power-blue Large Planchet example. The Pine Tree is splendidly detailed, and is not affected by a flan crack at 6 o'clock, as produced. Slightly wavy, as made, and any softness of strike is limited to the obverse near 9 o'clock and the reverse near 3 o'clock; the planchet was likely thin at that location.
