Description

XF Details 1795 Ten Dollar
13 Leaves, BD-1

1795 $10 13 Leaves--Tooled, Whizzed--ANACS. XF40 Details. Breen-6830, Taraszka-1, BD-1, High R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. An early die state example of the first variety of ten dollar gold pieces struck by the U.S. Mint. This piece appears to have AU sharpness and luster, but the reverse exergue is repaired and displays crude tooling marks. Both sides are bright and microgranular, characteristic of whizzing. The reverse rim has a ding at 3 o'clock, and the obverse rim is softly defined at 1:30, perhaps as made. The demand for Small Eagle tens is formidable, and the present piece provides an opportunity to provide a sharp example at an affordable cost.
