Description

Sharp 1859 Dollar, PR63 Cameo

1859 $1 PR63 Cameo PCGS. 1859 was the first year during which proof Seated dollars were publicly offered, although proofs are known of all P-mint issues in the series. Despite a comparatively generous mintage of 800 pieces, proofs with any sort of cameo contrast are scarce and bring a nice premium over their uncontrasted counterparts. This is a sharply struck proof, with light splashes of burgundy color over mirrored fields, tending toward indigo at the rims, and a degree of contrast more pronounced on the reverse. The few marks noted on the surfaces are trivial and do not affect the eye appeal in the slightest.
