Notable Gem Full Bands 1916-D Dime

1916-D 10C MS65 Full Bands NGC. The low-mintage 1916-D Winged Liberty dime became well-known as the series key before the design ended in 1945; unfortunately for collectors, that recognition became widespread only during the Great Depression, nearly two decades after the issue was released to circulation, which explains the many heavily worn examples seen by today's collectors. A relatively small number of near-pristine pieces do exist, however, such as this exactingly struck Full Bands Gem. The luster is bright and slightly frosty, and aside from a few hints of peripheral golden-tan color, the surfaces are nearly silver-white. Census: 24 in 65 Full Bands, 7 finer (10/09).(Registry values: N7079)
