Arcadius. 383-408 AD. Solidus, 4.49g (5h). Thessalonica, c. 397-402 AD. Obv: D N ARCADI - VS P F AVG Helmeted, cuirassed bust three-quarters facing, holding spear over shoulder and shield. Rx: CONCORDI - A AVGG Constantinopolis enthroned facing, head right, holding scepter and Victory on globe, and placing right foot on prow of ship (resembling an eagle); in exergue, COMOB. RIC 37 (R2). Depeyrot 44/1, p. 225 (14 specimens). Lacam, pl. XX, 1 (this coin). From the same obverse die as the following lot. Obvious Thessalonican style. Interestingly the prow of the ship has been changed into the bust of an eagle. Mint State.
