Description
Rare and Desirable Almost Uncirculated 1845-O Quarter Eagle
1845-O $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. A second and even higher graded example of this rarely seen O-mint Quarter Eagle. Only 55-60 pieces are believed known out of an original mintage of 4,000. Very few examples are known in the AU grade range; and in fact, we have only offered three AUs at public auction over the past ten years. The surfaces have a deep reddish-coppery hue throughout, the striking details are weak as one would expect from this issue, and the only mark of any real consequence is a scrape just behind Liberty's mouth. As a reminder, the depression between Liberty's lower curls and star 13 is mint-caused and is seen on all genuine '45-O Quarter Eagles. From the Ashland City Collection.
