Appealing 1907 Wire Rim Eagle, MS62

1907 $10 Wire Rim MS62 PCGS. The 1907 Wire Rim or Wire Edge eagles are technically patterns (Judd-1901), although numismatists debate both sides of the argument and they are collected alongside the regular issues of the series. Akers writes that the original mintage was 542 pieces, of which 70 were melted, giving a net distribution of 472 survivors. None were released into circulation; rather, they were distributed to Congressmen and Washington insiders. Today, examples are in constant demand in all grades.
This MS62 piece may prove to be an astute compromise for some fortunate collector, as the piece generates an inordinate amount of eye appeal for the grade. The golden-yellow surfaces show the typical satiny texture and rich luster, although some tiny marks on Liberty and in the obverse left field define the grade. The reverse shows only scattered minor abrasions, well-mixed into the swirling die polish lines that are prominent on both sides.(Registry values: N4719)
