Lovely Choice AU Large Planchet Pine Tree Shilling
1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet AU55 NGC. Noe-8, Crosby 1b-D, R.4. 69.4 grains. The 'Monogram NE' variety, which has those two letters fused along the right upright of the N and the left upright of the E. The mint-made die break below the G in ENGLAND is present but not yet fully developed. A 3% straight clip is found at 6 o'clock, affecting a couple of letters, but the legends are otherwise intact. A splendidly detailed example with original lavender patina and nearly undisturbed surfaces. The flan has a faint wave in the center, as struck. Listed on page 18 of the 2004 Guide Book.
