Description
Lustrous MS64 1895-S Dollar
1895-S $1 MS64 NGC. Like its New Orleans cousin, the 1895-S Morgan dollar is at once overshadowed by the famous Philadelphia proof-only issue and brought into the spotlight by collectors who desire an example of the date. The low mintage of 400,000 pieces has only enhanced the desirability of this issue, and finding a quality example is extremely difficult, since most examples are found with significant bagmarks. This near-Gem has somewhat reflective and flashy luster and patches of toning that range in color from fiery orange and red to deep russet and lavender. The frosted devices have a somewhat incomplete strike, most notably in the hair over Liberty's ear, though the strike is better than usual for this issue. Tiny marks appear on both sides, but even these are not concentrated and none of the marks are particularly distracting. A Choice piece with eye appeal that suggests an even higher grade.(Registry values: P8, N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 255Z, PCGS# 7238, GSID# 7622)
