Description

ANACS 1800 XF 40. B. 1-A. A very scarce and generally overlooked early ten with a mintage of only 5,999 pieces. The rarity of this date is no doubt due in part from the early breakage of the obverse die. There also seems to have been a high attrition rate for this date with only 2% estimated to have survived. This piece is actually quite well defined for the grade with good details on the hair as well as on the eagle's breast feathers. The greenish-gold color overall is accented by a light reddish tint around the devices. There are a few handling marks on each side, but the only one of note is a long, shallow scratch in the right obverse field that extends onto the neck of Liberty.
