1861 1C PR64 NGC. A suitably bold striking with rather modest reflectivity in the fields accompanied by a smattering of microscopic carbon flecks. Only a few hundred proofs from this year survive after an original production of 1,000 pieces. At least half of the mintage was melted after going unsold. Population: 23 in 64, 15 finer (7/03).From The Jones Beach Estate, Part I.
