Rare 1946-D/D Jefferson Nickel, MS66 Full Steps

1946-D/D 5C MS66 Full Steps PCGS. FS-501, formerly FS-031. The curve of an inverted D is apparent to the left of the upright of the mintmark. Also known as Breen-2708, this rare variety "is considered to be the second rarest of the original Jefferson 'Top Ten' in Mint State, second only to the 1942-D over horizontal D," according to the Cherrypickers' Guide. Well struck with impressively deep, shimmering luster, and lovely gold, sky-blue, and rose toning. Population: 12 in 66 Full Steps, 0 finer (5/08). (Registry values: P1)
