Description
Splendid Mint State 1794 Half Cent From The Dawson Collection
1794 MS 63 Brown NGC. B-9, C-9, R.2. Ex: Dawson. There are several mint state coins listed in the Condition Census for this variety, some even have portions of original Mint red remaining. However, it is difficult to imagine any of the coins listed having more eye appeal than this lustrous piece. The surfaces have an even, medium-brown color over both sides with a thick sheen of luster that shimmers over both obverse and reverse. The striking details are well defined except on the hair curls of Liberty, which of course show no individual hair strands as designed. The surfaces are miraculously free from any trace of carbon spotting. Slight metal flow is noted around the cap on the left side of the obverse, and close inspection also reveals evidence of light die clashing. The only marks of any note are a pair at the top of the wreath. Exceptional quality and one of the finest copper coins in the Andre Dawson Collection.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2223, PCGS# 1003, GSID# 432)
