Description

R.6 1854 Liberty Round 50 Cent, BG-436, MS62

1854 50C Liberty Round 50 Cents, BG-436, R.6, MS62 PCGS. A very rare piece by an unknown maker--Breen-Gillio theorize it was possibly Auguste DuBois. The rear of the head and neck has an unfinished appearance, and the eagle lacks a scroll on the reverse. This piece is midway between the two die states listed in Breen-Gillio. There is a "period" die dot after the date, but the "exclamation point" documented after DOL. is not fully formed, although a die crack passes nearby, from the eagle's beak up between the L and the period after. A lustrous amber-gold piece, certified in a green-label holder.
