Near-Gem 1861-O Half Dollar

1861-O 50C MS64 NGC. A gorgeous piece, coined during the final year of production in New Orleans prior to the Civil War. Afterwards, the facility did not begin coinage production until 1879, and did not strike another half dollar until the start of the Barber design in 1892. This near-Gem specimen is sharply struck with ivory luster and soft, frosty surfaces. Census: 38 in 64, 13 finer (10/07).(Registry values: N1793)
