Description

1841-C Five Dollar--Tied for Fifth Finest Known

1841-C MS 61 NGC. Ex: Elrod. While one of the more available issues from the 1840s, the '41-C is very rare in mint condition with only 5-6 pieces believed extant today out of a total population of 105-115 coins estimated in all grades. The striking details on this piece are extremely well defined with sharp detailing on the hair curls, peripheral stars, and eagle's plumage. Minimally abraded, the fields show slight reflectivity, with a rich overlay of reddish patina. Outstanding quality and tied for fifth finest known.
