Description
Uncirculated 1787 UNITED Above Fugio Cent
1787 1C Fugio Cent, UNITED Above MS61 Brown NGC. Newman 11-A, R.6. A memorable example of this elusive single variety type. The surfaces are primarily an attractive golden-brown with subtle steel-blue and violet accents. The strike is a trifle off-center and die breaks are noticed at 2 o'clock and 7 o'clock on the reverse, as nearly always seen. Fewer than two dozen 11-As are believed to exist, roughly half of which originated with the Bank of New York hoard. The few known survivors are generally AU or better quality. With interest in United States Colonials at an all-time high, we expect unprecedented interest in this important Fugio cent variety. Listed (and unpriced) on page 83 of the 2006 Guide Book.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B8L, PCGS# 901, GSID# 194)
