Description
Outstanding 1895 Morgan Dollar, Brilliant Proof 66 Cameo NGC
1895 $1 PR66 Cameo NGC. The 1895 Morgan Dollar has an official mintage of 12,000 business strikes. However, none are known today, leading one to speculate that the entire mintage may have been sequestered in government vaults until 1918 and then melted under the authority of the Pittman Act. Whatever the scenario was that caused these business strikes to disappear, one is left with the inescapable conclusion that if a collector today wishes to have an 1895-P Morgan Dollar for his set, he is limited to purchasing one of the 880 proofs that were produced. This is a marvelous example of the proofing process. The fields show deep, illimitable depth of mirrored reflectivity and the devices are well frosted also, giving the coin a pronounced two-toned appearance. Brilliant, completely untoned, with essentially flawless and unhairlined fields, the untouched devices give this coin an irresistible appeal.(#87330) (Registry values: N10218)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27ZR, PCGS# 87330, GSID# 7842)
