Description

Select Uncirculated 1798 Heraldic Eagle Dollar

1798 Large Eagle MS 63 ANACS. B-28, BB-118. One of the more recognizable varieties for this date and type, showing an extensive network of die cracks on each side and a curious die blunder of the N in UNITED punched over a previously punched I. This magnificent specimen is toned in antique-gold and lilac hues, with subtle greenish-gray accents on the obverse. Raised die lines along the right obverse border are not to be confused with adjustment marks, of which there are none. The strike is typically shallow on Liberty's hair and on the eagle's breast feathers above the shield, while several stars above the eagle are almost nonexistent. Only a few trivial marks are found at the base of Liberty's neck and in the stars and clouds above the eagle's head. Easily Condition Census for this scarcer variety.
