Description

Gem Proof 1903 Liberty Eagle

1903 $10 PR65 PCGS. Compared to other issues from the same era, the 1903 Eagle is rarer in proof format than those from 1900, 1902, and 1904. Akers estimated that no more than 25 to 30 specimens exist, although Breen suggests a more liberal figure of 35 to 40. Either way, this issue is rare in all grades, and is especially elusive at the Gem level. As befits a post-1900 proof gold coin, the surfaces of this Gem display a uniformly brilliant appearance with no cameo contrast between the fields and devices. Orange-gold in color with pinpoint striking definition, the surfaces are free of grade-limiting hairlines and both sides exhibit memorable eye appeal. A magnificent proof gold coin that should inspire spirited bidding. Population: 5 in 65, 0 finer (10/01).
